Mexican Day of the Dead workshop

 October 2011: 2 day art workshop for children aged 5-11, making traditional Mexican crafts to celebrate Day of the Dead.

First, they made clay candleholders based on Mexican folk art designs

 

The children made card skeleton puppets and skull paper cuts

 

The skeletons and skulls were used to decorate an altar, for which the children were invited to bring in photos of or objects associated with a deceased loved one.
